Students abandon ancient method of fighting HIV

Makamba, Burundi- During the Christmas holidays we gathered the students of recently visited schools and prepared them to begin Universal Chastity Education clubs at their schools. We held a workshop because we found out that students from the schools we reached were being used to distribute condoms to their fellow students. Our team was very sad that the students were being used in this way, and upon interviewing the students we found they did not fully understand what they were doing. However, after hearing the UCE message of abstinence, the students chose to abandon their ancient method of fighting HIV/AIDS, which was to distribute condoms at their schools! The team and the students rejoiced as we thanked God for this success!
The students who were distributing condoms, and leaders of 'Stop AIDS Clubs' told us that they had felt miserable about distributing condoms. They said they felt culpability in their hearts because they had seen the propagation of HIV as a result of their actions. So, the students decided to denounce publically their previous method of "protection" and embrace our method of teaching and encouraging abstinence as the best way of fighting against HIV/AIDS. This is a testimony of one of the students:
“I am a leader of a Stop AIDS club at our school. This club is sustained by the government through CNLS and I am a channel of distributing condoms. I have done this work three years ago but no one from my family was aware of that. After the visit of UCE team on our school, I was touched by the message and tried to look for a way to escape that stupid work of distributing condoms among my brothers and sisters. UCE team came in a due time and as a solution of my problems. Now I have just informed my family and my fellow students that I have joined UCE teachings. I’m really agreed with the message of UCE team that Abstinence is a best way for youth to fight against HIV/AIDS and I am sustained by the Bible verses that I was given by UCE teachings.”
