Universal Chastity Education (UCE), a ministry based in southern Colorado, conducted several outreaches this past month here in our diocese and abroad with the mission of educating young people about the importance of abstinence before marriage and fidelity after. During their outreaches, staff and volunteers stress the very real risks of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV in Africa, while encouraging students to pursue God’s vibrant plan for their lives.

Since its inception in 2004, UCE has witnessed nearly 400,000 youth and married couples sign chastity commitment cards according to their stage in life. With the aid of UCE sports clubs and accountability follow-up programs, three of those known to the ministry have also chosen the celibate life of a religious vocation. Pictured left is Dr. Ken Dernovsek leading a group in scripture study at St. Pius X parish, with Fr. Matthew Wertin, on April 2. Pictured right is Fr. Carl Wertin and Samantha Stratton singing a duet on the difference between worldly love and the love only God can provide at a Frassati event on April 6 in Trinidad.
