A New Door Opened

By Isaac Lema, Iringa, Tanzania (December 2013)- This past year, the Tanzania team traveled to Luhota secondary school. The school is a day, government coeducation school located in Iringa district. The team has visited this school before, and it is one of the schools where we have an UCE club. The team visited the school again in order to reach new students who have not heard the UCE message and recruit new members for the UCE club.

What is special about this club, is that for the past year it was running only on students’ initiative. After the last outreach to the school, the students were unable to find a teacher patron for their club. As a result, they met after school hours on Wednesdays. Even without a patron they found a way to meet. This time, however, after the outreach, the club was overjoyed when they found a teacher who volunteered to be their patron. The teacher was among those who signed commitment cards after being reached with the UCE message. During the outreach, he was very moved. He stood and gave a personal message at the outreach. It was powerful and even more students were motivated to make a decision to abstain. 327 came forward to their new lives, committing to their future. A new door has been opened!
