UCE-Kasese Reports Marked Teen Pregnancy Decline

Last year the head teacher at Kibalya secondary school reported that every term they lose over 10 students who get pregnant and don’t come back again. Since the UCE team left the school last year, there were no reports of pregnancy cases. Even with the prolonged forced COVID 19 holiday, the head teacher has not heard of any case of pregnancy. He was “very excited for the great work of UCE.”

The UCE team told the head teacher to encourage students who had signed abstinence cards to meet during the UCE club meetings and discuss the challenges and encouragements to help them succeed in their abstinence journey. During this recent outreach on 10/26/2020, 43 students also signed chastity cards. When the UCE team left, they promised to give the Kibalya UCE sports club uniforms and balls for both boys and girls.

During the COVID-19 lockdown, UCE-Kasese has had much success sharing the chastity message through radio outreaches. Although they will continue the radio outreaches, since COVID-19 lockdowns have eased in Uganda, this was the first in-person outreach UCE-Kasese has conducted since COVID shut down schools in Uganda in March 2020. Thanks be to God, the UCE-Kasese team, and for the students who have taken this important message to heart!
